The Plan MeCuida has been extended until January 31, 2021, and right on the day it ends. This plan, which refers to the right to adapt the timetable and reduce the working day, was announced in March.
Plan MeCuida extended
It was necessary to extend it, given the epidemiological situation that is causing the Covid-19. This measure is a fundamental tool that employees can use. The aim is to be able to reconcile their professional life with the care of both their children and their spouse. Or relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity, in those situations in which care duties are accredited for dependent persons due to the exceptional circumstances related to the prevention of the COVID-19.
Not forgetting situations of closure of educational centres, or situations of compulsory quarantine during periods of observation.
Thus, workers who prove the need for care of the spouse or partner and family members up to the second degree of consanguinity to prevent the transmission of the Covid-19, may agree to apply:
- A reduction in working hours. With the consequent reduction in salary, which may even be a temporary suspension of the provision of services. This must be communicated to the company at least 24 hours in advance.
- Request a modification of the work shift, alteration of the timetable, flexible timetable, split or continuous working day. Or also a change of work centre, of functions, of the way in which the tasks are carried out. Any other change that can be implemented “in a reasonable and proportionate manner, taking into account the temporary and exceptional nature” of the rule, which must be agreed upon by the parties.
Leave of absence from work
Note that only in the case of a positive child, the parent will have access to leave for care.
In the event that a minor has to be placed in preventive quarantine because a positive case has been detected in his or her school, the parent will not be granted leave. Having as an option to take advantage of the MeCuida Plan.
However, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration is evaluating the possible extension of coverage for these situations. Although nothing has been specified in this respect so far.
