The new procedure that regulates the authorization of residence for the accomplishment of Internships with Foreign Students, has been established in the R.D. 11/2018 of August 31 in its additional disposition 18ª. For those who are going to carry out these extra-curricular work placements remunerated in a company by agreement or work placement contract.
For foreigners who have obtained a higher education degree in the two years prior to the date of application. Or who are pursuing studies leading to a higher education degree.
Companies wishing to host foreign students for extra-curricular internships in their companies are obliged to apply for a residence permit for internships beforehand. This authorization must be made before the Government Delegation of the province of residence of the student.
Applications are resolved within a maximum of 30 working days.

The company interested in formalizing a scholarship with a foreign student must start the procedures 2 months in advance. Here are the steps to follow to start the procedure.
- Submission of application for authorization of residences for internships. This file will be resolved within 30 days.
- If authorisation is obtained. It will be possible to formalize the agreement of extracurricular scholarship with the student and to register in social security. Registration for an initial period of six months.
- After the first six months you can apply for renewal for six more months of registration.
- At the end of the maximum term, it is possible to apply for residence and work authorization. To provide services as an employee.
